China is making significant strides in promoting the development and adoption of Web3 technologies. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has proposed a strategic framework to support the growth of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and decentralized applications (dApps), focusing on government and industry sectors to introduce innovative business models and enhance the country’s digital ecosystem.
Collaboration and Policy Development
The MIIT has collaborated with the Cyberspace Administration of China to release crucial policy documents, including “Guiding Opinions on Accelerating Blockchain Technology Application and Industrial Development” and “Regulations on Blockchain Information Services.” Additionally, in conjunction with the National Standardization Committee, they formed the National Blockchain and Distributed Accounting Technology Standardization Technical Committee (TC590), which will drive the standardization and advancement of blockchain in Web 3.0.
A Customized Approach for Domestic Needs
China’s strategy involves targeted research to meet specific local needs, focusing on mapping out a development path that addresses both innovation and existing challenges. This includes enhancing technical research and regulation, and promoting international cooperation to expand the reach and application of Web3 technologies.
Introducing RealDID Digital Identity Service
As part of these initiatives, China is testing RealDID, a digital identity service balancing user anonymity with real-name verification, catering to the needs of the digital economy. This project is a key part of China’s vision for a digital future.
China’s Role in the Global Web3 Arena
With these measures, China is positioning itself as a leading force in the Web3 sector. The country’s proactive approach and strategic implementation of Web3 technologies underscore its commitment to becoming a significant player in the global arena. The RealDID pilot project exemplifies this dedication, showcasing China’s efforts to blend digital innovation with user-centric solutions.
