CRYPTO INFLUENCERS AND CELEBS HIT BY X ACCOUNT HACKS

The social media accounts of well-known traders, rappers, and even Caitlyn Jenner have been hacked, promoting various tokens in what appears to be a coordinated series of breaches.

Recent Hacks

Several industry influencers and celebrities had their X accounts compromised over the weekend, promoting tokens like Luna2 and ORDI as well as celebrity-themed memecoins. One of the latest victims, the pseudonymous cryptocurrency investor known as Gigantic-Cassocked-Rebirth (GCR), confirmed their account was hacked. GCR’s X account posted about ORDI and Luna2.0 on May 26, temporarily boosting the tokens by 6% and 274%, respectively.

Missed Opportunities

Many noted that the hacker could have chosen to promote a less-known coin for higher gains but instead opted for these tokens, resulting in limited profits. Crypto analyst Miles Deutscher remarked, “The GCR hacker fumbled the bag hard,” suggesting that the hacker missed a bigger opportunity by not picking a more obscure coin.

Wider Attacks

The GCR hack might be part of a broader attack on celebrity X accounts. Bitcoin developer and Ordinals commentator Udi Wertheimer indicated that there seems to be an ongoing operation targeting major Twitter accounts. He advised caution, especially during long weekends when platform engineers might be unavailable.

Rich The Kid’s Account Compromised?

American rapper Rich The Kid’s X account, with 2.3 million followers, posted a link to buy a new token called “RICH” on Solana’s memecoin creator tool, pump.fun. The token quickly reached a $90,000 market cap within two hours. Although it’s unclear if Rich The Kid’s account was hacked, the post was subsequently deleted.

Caitlyn Jenner’s Account and Deepfake Speculations

Around the same time, Caitlyn Jenner’s X account promoted a new memecoin called “JENNER,” which amassed a $27.1 million market cap within eight hours. There is debate about whether the promotion video was a deepfake. However, Jenner and her manager, Sophia Hutchins, have made statements confirming the posts and videos are genuine. The JENNER coin was also promoted on Jenner’s Instagram, with Hutchins later hosting an X space to assert there was no deepfake involved.

Connections to Other Tokens

The crypto wallet posted by Jenner matches the wallet posted by adult content creator Kazumi, who promoted the coin “ZUMI” on May 20. Allegedly, the RICH, DOLL, and SOULJA tokens are also linked to JENNER. Hutchins claimed Jenner’s team was unaware of these connections when asked in the X spaces.
